Plication Of Gastric Bypass

This procedure is often performed in patients who have previously had the gastric bypass, and have significantly stretched out their stomach pouch and outlet, which allows them to eat large portions of food without feeling satiated.

The procedure is performed laparoscopically using a few tiny skin incisions.  The dilated stomach pouch is folded inwards using rows of sutures to create a smaller functional stomach. There is no cutting or removing of the stomach.  Additionally, the stomach outlet is made smaller using more sutures. This results in a tiny stomach pouch with much smaller capacity, causing satiety after a small amount of food.  The food also stays in the stomach for a longer period of time, thus facilitating weight loss.
