Gastric Sleeve To Gastric Bypass

Although the Gastric Sleeve leads to excellent weight loss; for some patients, it might not be adequate. This can especially be true if the amount of weight loss one initially needed exceeded 150 lbs.  Converting the Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass may be a good option for some.

The procedure is done laparoscopically or by using DaVinci® Robot.  Prior small skin incisions are used. The Gastric Sleeve pouch is made smaller and converted to a Gastric Bypass.  This can lead to good weight loss, since the stomach pouch is much smaller and patients can get satiety after eating just a small amount of food.

What can I expect after treatment?

  • Two night hospitalization
  • Return to work within 2 weeks
  • Liquid diet post-surgery, and progressed incrementally to solid diet over 4 weeks
  • Eating a high protein, low calorie, low fat, low carbohydrate diet, and living an active lifestyle will optimize weight loss.

If you had a Gastric Sleeve and inadequate weight loss, feel free to ask Dr. Mehta about your options; as well as the expected weight loss in your particular situation.
