Lap Band To Gastric Bypass

For some patients, the gastric band may lead to suboptimal weight loss for a variety of reasons.

Sometimes, making certain the band is adequately adjusted, proper nutrition, and exercise can reverse this condition. There are some, however, who desire greater weight loss. Removing the band and performing the Gastric Bypass can be a good option.

The procedure is done laparoscopically or using daVinci® Robot.  Small skin incisions are used. The gastric band is removed and a gastric bypass is done.  This can lead to substantial weight loss.

What can I expect after treatment?
•    Two night hospitalization
•    Return to work within 2 weeks
•    Liquid diet post-surgery, and progressed incrementally to solid diet over 4 weeks
•    Patients can feel satiety after smaller portions of food, and can restart losing weight. Weight loss can be substantial with this procedure, giving patients a optimal chance of achieving their reasonable desired weight.
•    Eating a high protein, low calorie, low fat, low carbohydrate diet, and living an active lifestyle will optimize weight loss.

If you had a Gastric Band and inadequate weight loss, feel free to ask Dr. Mehta about your options; as well as the expected weight loss in your particular situation.
